About RSS
RSS allows you to keep up to date with your favourite websites by sending you an alert when new content has been published. Instead of having to visit each website in turn, you can set up an online page or account that shows you at a glance which of those sites have been updated.
RSS is really simple…
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and distributes content as a feed using some code called xml – but you don’t need to have any special technical knowledge to take advantage of it!
The only thing that you do need is a tool to pick up the RSS feeds. These tools are known as news readers or feed readers. They check the RSS feeds you have set up and publish any updated information from these.
Choosing a news reader
There are many different options when it comes to choosing a news reader. Some of these are browser based, which means you can view them from any computer providing you have internet access. Others are downloaded onto your own computer. You’ll find a list of news readers further on in this article. Setting up a free online news reader account may well be the easiest route to take to begin with.
Setting up RSS feeds
Once you have chosen your news reader, the next step is to add RSS feeds from the websites that you want to keep up to date with. Details on setting up a feed for activevents are at the end of this article.
When you have set your feeds up, every time you visit your news reader account you will be presented with a list of all the websites and blogs that you’ve subscribed to which have been recently updated – making it much easier to keep track of a whole host of websites.
